Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of the terms entered into those search fields.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. We keep those communications within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Ordinary server and analytics logs can record technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Viewed pages and approximate visit length
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure visits, popular pages, and how readers move through the site. Analytics providers may combine that activity into reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, though disabling them may change how some features behave.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Ontario County Criminal History does not compile, retain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official access routes through Ontario County Sheriff Records, the courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a file about another person or into a consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search tools embedded on some pages. Information submitted there is governed by that provider's privacy terms. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so its policy should be reviewed before a query is sent.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Ontario County offices, court systems, New York agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls the new visit. Review those terms before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their technology and policies govern that processing.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Advertising networks serving placements on the site

- Search providers receiving queries submitted to their tools

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for data within our control. No internet system can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that loss, misuse, or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A substantiated request concerning a minor's data will be addressed and the information removed where applicable.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs records held by public agencies rather than this private site. Executive Law §837 governs DCJS criminal-history functions and does not turn visitor data here into a government criminal-history file. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of eligible personal information
- Ask what personal data is held about them
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing where the law permits
